We support enrichment through art residencies, school assemblies, and programs that promote inclusion, advocacy, and a love of reading.
Theatre with Speranza Theatre Company (K & 1st grade).
Students work with Speranza right in their classrooms through theater games and creative writing, expressing their unique voices and building cultural exposure.
Speranza is a nonprofit, women-led NJ Theater Alliance member. The PS5 PTA raises funds to support this program — email jerseycityps5pta@gmail.com to join the committee.
Dance with Segunda Quimbamba Folkloric Center (Pre-K).
Pre-K students learn the rhythms, movements, and cultural traditions of Afro-Puerto Rican dance and music, building coordination, confidence, and cultural awareness.
PS5 hosts a variety of engaging assemblies including the Planetarium, Liberty Science Center (LSC), Rutgers Science Bus, Lizard Guy and a magician, Sk8 4 Life (wellness and resilience through skateboarding and storytelling), and middle school assemblies on anti-racism and internet safety.
The PS5 PTA partners with the school for the annual Book Fair, fostering a love of reading and raising classroom funds. Our Books for the Classroom initiative lets families contribute directly to classroom supplies, snacks, and special projects.

The PS5 PTA brings in guest speakers — authors, scientists, artists, and community leaders — to connect classroom subjects to real-world applications and spark curiosity for middle school students.
Workshops on internet safety, anti-racism in education, and neurodiversity — supporting an informed, inclusive, and compassionate school community.
