General School Info

Uniforms, schedules, meals, safety, and all the essentials for families at PS5.

Uniform & Dress Code

Pre-K

Optional red shirt.

Kindergarten – Grade 5

  • Boys: Navy slacks, yellow dress shirt, navy tie
  • Girls: Navy slacks/skirts/jumper/skorts, yellow blouse
  • All students: Blue sweater only, black shoes (no sandals)
  • Gym uniform: red apparel and sneakers

Navy shorts permitted in September/June (possibly October/May depending on weather).

Middle School (Grades 6–8)

  • Grade 6: Yellow shirt
  • Grade 7: Blue shirt
  • Grade 8: White shirt
  • Navy slacks/skirts (no tight-fitting pants), blue sweater, blue tie
  • Blue gym uniform with school logo

Daily Schedule

  • Morning STARS: 7:00am – 8:00am
  • School doors open: 8:30am – 8:40am
  • Delayed opening: 10:00am
  • Dismissal Pre-K: 2:30pm
  • Dismissal K–8: 2:40pm – 2:45pm
  • CASPER pick-up: 3:10pm – 6:00pm

Attendance Notes

  • Doors close at 8:40am — students arriving after are marked tardy.
  • Students must stay until 12:45pm to avoid being marked absent.
  • Latest excused arrival is 10:30am.

FAQs

How do I access my child's grades?

Pre-K: assignments sent by letter. Grades K–8: Google Classroom for work, Infinite Campus for grades.

How do I contact my child's teacher?

Primary method is the district email (@jcboe.org). Teachers may also use Kaymbu, ClassTag, Class Dojo, or Remind.

How do school meals work?

Breakfast and Lunch are free for everyone.

Athletic physicals — what do I need?

Submit page 5 of the completed physical packet to Nurse Moulton, then register via the Infinite Campus parent portal.

My child has food allergies — what should I do?

Notify the school nurse. Classroom restrictions may be put in place depending on the severity.

Medical forms — when are they needed?

Forms are sent home during the first week of school. Flu vaccines are mandatory until age 5.

Can I enter the building?

For security, parents are not permitted in the building. Middle school students pass through metal detectors. All visitors must sign in at the main entrance.
